It’s hard to believe August is already over! To kick off September, I thought I’d share some of my favorite things from the past month.
My favorite TV show this month is one that I’ve mentioned in a past Favorites blog post, but I recently found my way back to it so I thought it was worth mentioning again. The show I’m referring to is Jane The Virgin! I just finished watching Season 3 yesterday, and it was just as emotional, charming and hilarious as I remembered. If you haven’t watched it yet, I would highly recommend putting it on your “Must Binge List” since all 3 seasons are now on Netflix!
My favorite movie I saw in August was The Big Sick. As soon as I saw the trailer for this movie, I knew I wanted to watch it. I was intrigued by the fact that it is based on a true story, and was written by the real-life Kumail and Emily (and stars Kumail as well). True stories are always fascinating to me, and this one did not disappoint. If you’re a fan of romantic comedies that remain extremely realistic and have just the right balance of drama and comedy, you’re sure to like this movie as much as I did!
Right in time for the new month, I just finished Ann Patchett‘s novel Commonwealth, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I will be writing a full book review with all of my thoughts, so keep your eyes peeled for that soon. But to give you a sneak peek, the story follows the lives of two families spanning five total decades of time. And these two families are a bit dysfunctional, which always makes for the best stories. As my mom said when she recommended it to me “it makes you feel better about your own crazy family.”
I’ve started listening to a lot of different podcasts recently, so it was actually pretty tough to choose a favorite. After much deliberation, I went with Meghan Rienks’ “Don’t Blame Me.” I first discovered Meghan from her YouTube channel, and I thought she was really down to earth and funny. So of course when I heard she’d started an advice podcast, I knew I’d love it! Meghan has her fans leave voicemails with questions for her to answer about all kinds of things (though it tends to be a lot of relationship questions). I’ve always enjoyed hearing people give advice for some reason, so this podcast has been really fun for me to listen to.
For those of you who haven’t heard, I started my own YouTube channel about a month ago! I’ve had a blast filming and editing videos so far. You should definitely check it out if you like watching sit-down videos about topics you can relate to.
However, I’m not going to claim my own channel as my favorite. That’s a little too self-centered for my taste. My actual favorite YouTube channel last month was a married couple named Cody & Lexy. I love how real and honest they are, and especially enjoyed this video all about the struggles they’ve faced to get to where they are today.
I hope you enjoyed learning some of my favorite things from last month! Let me know in the comments what your favorite thing was from one (or all) of these categories. I love learning more about people!
