“Chase what makes you happy and not the dream people think you should chase.”
I’m back with another Table Talk Tuesday, this time featuring a beauty and lifestyle blogger with an Instagram game that is stronger than mine will ever be. Give a warm welcome to Shawna, from the blog Babbling Beauty!
To start off, can you tell me your life story in three sentences or less?
After high school I attended cosmetology school and got my license. I ended up being really into the makeup aspect more than the hair aspect, and later decided to start blogging about my love for makeup!
What is one piece of advice you would give your younger self?
Always worry about the expectations you set for yourself and not the ones others set for you. Chase what makes you happy and not the dream people think you should chase.
If you had a life motto, what would it be?
Live your life the way that lets you enjoy life.
What is the most important thing for people to know before starting a blog?
Don’t do it for the likes or acknowledgement, do it because you actually enjoy it. If you enjoy it, it makes the content better and more enjoyable to others.
When you’re having an especially rough day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
A good book really helps because then I can drop myself in a whole other world.
Sometimes our failures/setbacks teach us more than our successes. Can you talk about a time when you failed and what it taught you?
I wouldn’t even know where to begin. At 25, I’ve failed plenty of times. I can’t pinpoint a specific thing but overall it taught me that failure can be important because at least you tried. It’s better to try and fail than to not and think ‘what if?’
What three things are at the top of your gratitude list right now?
My family, friends, and blogger friends! They honestly all build me up and support me and I am so thankful for them!
Who is your biggest “girl crush” in terms of female entrepreneurs, celebrities, or any other woman you look up to, and why?
Oh my god, this is such a hard one. I would say Louise Pentland (Sprinkle of Glitter) just because I can really relate to her. At 25, I’ve been divorced and remarried and have a child and I just really relate to her and I love how she is always herself.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
My child, hands down. I don’t think I could ever accomplish anything bigger than him.
I have to throw a fun one in here to wrap this up. What is your go-to karaoke song?
THAT is a hard question! I would have to say “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction OR “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey.
